The lack of both women and physicians from groups underrepresented in medicine (UIM) in academic leadership has become a growing concern in healthcare. Despite increasing recognition that diversity in physician leadership can lead to reduced health disparities, improved population health and increased innovation and creativity in organizations, progress toward this goal is slow. Why are we not seeing more representation of diversity in leadership positions? How can we create more inclusive environments? What does it mean to think about issues through the lens of equity?
