ACGME Common Program Requirements - Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to Implement Remaining Requirements for Teaching Faculty.
On July 1, 2019, the ACGME implemented a partial list of new Common Program Requirements for teaching faculty that address the skills, knowledge and activities in which they must demonstrate as residency faculty. Most of these new requirements for faculty have direct implications for CPD programs to address via specialized faculty development training opportunities.
On July 1, 2020, the remaining requirements go into effect. They state that: “Faculty members must pursue faculty development designed to enhance their skills at least annually: as educators; in quality improvement and patient safety; in fostering their own and their residents’ well-being; and in patient care based on their practice-based learning and improvement efforts.”
As of July 1, 2020, the complete list of new requirements for faculty will be subject to citation if evidence of compliance is not found during a residency review or survey. Go to Institutional Common Program Requirements for more information.
